Damien lived in a world where people around him would kill and so he learned to be aggressive when needed. Harming Zack had turned on his instincts to fight and it is only when the other guys turned away that he uncocking the gun and holsters it once more inside his jacket. He was armed with several weapons, always.

Damien slipped his arm into Zack's and immediately touches his hair to make sure he isn't hurt. He's not at all flustered though his heart is hammering a little. It had everything to do with Zack being in danger rather than the situation.

"I'm sorry he grabbed you." Damien was feeling guilty that he hadn't noticed the guy coming up on Zack. Truth is there are so many more people on the streets here than Damien needs to adjust his senses to be more watchful.
